Gobbler’s Third Banquet

Frenetia: The Gobbler’s Third Banquet

Commencing First July 2025 and running for one year.

Featuring Player Determined Gobbler requests and skill use.

Player Determined Gobbler Requests

The Gobbler is a matter consuming entity. For the third Gobbler’s banquet the Gobbler has decided to allow the players to determine what it will consume and allocate Gobbler points for. It will taste what is offered. The item will be added to the repertoire of Gobbler requests after sufficient tasting has occurred.

There is no obligation to participate in tastings. However players may choose to make some tastings because this will influence the type of requests that appear in the list.

Player determined Gobbler’s Tastings define the Gobbler’s requests list.

Player Determined Skill Use

Gobbler scoring depends on the both the amount and quality of the items offered. Now skill gain has been turned into more of a strategic advantage. Types of skill research will be influenced by the players’ preferences. Players will determine to what extent particular skills may be used by all players.

As displayed in the skills window, all skills start and may be used at one. To apply higher degree of skill requires both practice (shown in skills window) and opened research (shown on the Gobbler wand menu). Skills are seen to increase with practice. For example if a player does minimal black smithing activity their skill will be less compared to another player who does much more of this activity.

Donating to skill research is voluntary. Skills which have research opened will be enabled at higher amounts for all players, regardless of which players made donations. Each skill may be researched for use up to twenty, fifty, seventy, ninety and one hundred. Research items need to be of quality equal to or greater than the currently opened research.

Here is an example. Five players make sufficient blacksmithed items at quality 20 or higher to open the use of blacksmith 50 skill. In doing so their blacksmith skill as listed in the skills window may be showing growth to greater than 50. They will be able to use the skill to 50 in practice. The growth in the skill as read in the skills window will be preserved for if and when the next breakpoint in the research is reached. Other players may choose different skills to practice and would only be allowed to use their listed skill in blacksmithing, which may be considerably less than 50, but as for all skills grows with activity.

Frenetia: The Gobbler’s Third Banquet

Description

The Gobbler’s Third Banquet will be held for twelve months. It will consist of three servers run consecutively, for four months each. They are called Entree, Main Course and Dessert starting July, November and March respectively. The players’ appearance, skills and Gobbler scores are transferred over to each of the following servers. Old items and buildings are not transferred over. Building an Arboretum gives the reward of a high quality stone chisel on each server.

On all servers players start with 90 ql pelt and a platinum Gobbler wand, Santa is near each start point. Each server will have different other starting items, reducing in quality and type reflecting the increasing starting difficulty of the later servers. Each server has a different map and terrain type.

The players have arrived at the starting point of “Entree” on an Ark. It is located at the highest point on the map where it washed up after the flood. At varying times during the fours months players may be able to find useful items by searching on the Ark. There are grass and trees nearby, the only trees on the map. The slopes are low and gentle, covered with dirt, gravel, steppe, clay, and sand. Reeds and kelp lie at the water’s edge. Players start with 99 ql gold statuettes, 99 ql platinum pickaxe and 80 ql steel shovel.

It is likely that server wide swamps contain easily seen viris which if touched will cause disease, making it almost impossible to use skills unless a cure is taken. Items such as tissues and soap will be included in the cure. Antibody starters are found in treasure chests. When built the antibody may be used to neutalise viris. Antibodys and cures may be packed on the Ark for use on the Main Course server. Other items may also be packed on the Ark to take on the Journey.

On the “Main Course” server there are no trees. The landscape is almost all grass. The slopes are gentle rolling hills with some exposed rockface hills. Clay reeds and kelp may only be found near water. There is no steppe terrain. Players start with 50 ql iron pickaxe and shovel. A gift of a high quality platinum pickaxe is given if players log in during the Christmas season.

Hospital beds may be packed on the Ark to take to the Dessert server in order to completely eradicate the viris. It will be particularly important to pack sufficient creature carriers on the Ark before leaving the Main Course server.

On the “Dessert” server there is no grass at all. Players may search the Ark to obtain breeding pairs of domestic creatures. The Ark has washed up at a high steep sand dune. In all directions all that may be found are steep sand dunes, strangely shaped, some with sheer edges. Altars will be on very steep sand dunes.

There are no iron veins on the Dessert server. Iron lumps may be found foraging from player planted grass, or searching rock faces after digging deeply to expose them. There are sparse sand and dirt beaches. Reeds and kelp grow under water. Clay is only located under water. Raising the ground by dropping sands will result in early clay use. A clay token may be won as a later Gobbler level reward. Players start with 1 ql tin shovel (fashioned from cans) and 5 piles of 3.2 kg thatch taken from the bedding in the Ark.

The players’ challenge in the Third Gobbler’s Banquet is to score as many gobbler points as they can given the constraints of the three different starting conditions.

Good Luck!

Preparation of the Ark

The Ark is being prepared to survive the oncoming floods

The Ark is being readied for its journey on the first of July to the Entree Server of the Gobbler’s Third banquet. It is becoming a special vehicle which is larger in size. It has increased capacity to carry some the things and creatures needed by the players to adapt to the new lands and be better able to feed the Gobbler.

Players will be able to search the Ark each week for higher value useful items such as lamps, cheese drills and small magical chests. At the time a player makes a search any backdated items will be found, so nobody will miss out on these items. (A list of these items already packed is shown in the parentheses.

(* Weekly search items: cheese drill, lantern, brass hanging lamp, imperial lamp, saddle, spindle, small magical chest, beehive token)

Players will also be able to search the Ark each five minutes for useful items which range in value such as hides, sleep powders, nails and flowers. There is no limitaion on the amount of these searches which may be made. A list of the items already packed into the ark already is included in the parentheses.

(* List of items that can be loaded into the ark, and come out in the 5 minute searches in the next part of the journey: hides, lumps, cochineal, gems, nails, flowers, plantable crops, books, paper, ink, sprouts, plate, knife, fork, spoon, waterskin, pottery bowl, baking stone, mortar&pestle, log, herb casserole, gelatine, cauldron, frying pan, saucepan, sleep powder, mushrooms, salt, plank, shaft, handle, peg, blue common wool hat, backpack, compass, small sign, 4 ropes, small chest, 10 string of cloth, dirt, honey, wax)

Preparation for future Ark journies from the Entree server to Main Course, and then from the Main Course to Dessert servers will be undertaken by the players. The list of items which will be available to be searched for will be taken from the item types packed into the Ark. In theory it will work out that a slightly easier start in the new lands will be possible if items have been packed to assist the start. Players may choose to not search the Ark and experience the increasingly difficult starting conditions. Players may search the Ark regardless if they packed any items or not. If an item is really wanted it will be a good idea to pack some in case nobody else has packed any. Players may inspect the contents of the Ark. Donations may be removed from the Ark each day up to each 8 pm Australian Time. After that time the donations are not retrievable.

In order to ensure that technology and patterns are available to be used for future conditions some essential items have been packed. These are hospital beds, creature transporters and bee hives. This will allow health benefits and animal domesticity. As for other search items, these will need to be loaded by the players for future journeys.

There are a few items such as clay and other terrain tokens, and high value tools that the Ark will not accept. If you would like to see some other items packed during this Ark preparation please let us know in game or on the Wurm forum.

All Aboard the Ark!

The Ark is ready for the flood.

The Gobbler’s Third Banquet is commencing July 1 at 10 am UTC

Having been buffeted on the floods for some days the Ark is expected to make landfall at a high point located on the Entree Server on July 1 at 10 am UTC (8 pm Australian EST).

Players may join the the Ark landing by logging in to the “Frenetia: Third Banquet Entree – noncombat” server which will be listed on the Steam Wurm PVE server list. It opens on July 1 at 10 am UTC (8 pm Australian EST).

Before the flood some more work was done to make personal compartments in the Ark. These will allow players to load up the ark with useful items for the next part of the journey.

The preloaded health beds will give coverage so that there will be basic passive treatment for viris encountered. Novel viris unknown to us as yet which require new treatments, will have to be developed in the Ark’s laboratory facilities at a later date as knowlege of them grow.

About Power Outage and some Bug Fixes.

We have been notified that there will be a power outage for up to 7 hours on 9 July 2025 commencing 22:30 UTC to conduct “Power system maintenance” (10 July 2025 8:30 to 15:30 AEST). Hopefully the whole 7 hours will not be required. We will back up the server just before that time and close it until the power is reconnected.

Any items made of platinum will now be refused by the Gobbler. Accidental loss of wands and pickaxes whilst donating should no longer occur.

The Gobbler now accepts and will request “meals”. A gastronomic feast is available because there are many forms of “meal” to choose, ranging from basic breakfasts eg corn to exotic dishes such as tuna and mayo baked potato. Exactly the same score will be given regardless if the offering is ever so humble or an amazing ingredient heavy culinary masterpiece.

Increased Treasure Maps

It is no longer necessary to do seemingly endless mining and digging in order to obtain treasure maps. If you only want the treasure maps tonight’s update will be of interest because they have been added to each five minute search of the Ark.

A new weekly high quality search item is available. Last week’s search gave a quality 92 spindle. If you have not visited the Ark the previous search items will also be found.

Another herd of multi-coloured horses has been located deep in the Ark and placed outside to graze nearby.

The Path to Glass: Limestone shards added

Limestone Shards

In today’s update the path to glass is initiated with the addition of limestone shards. They may be found in Marble veins and in some rock tiles.

9 August 2025

The Path to Glass: Kelp tanks added

Kelp Tank

In today’s update step two of the path to glass is added, namely Kelp Tanks. These allow growing kelp at camp. Activate a huge tub and a kelp to make an unfinished kelp tank. The building requires 9 more kelps, 10 salt and 10 waters (salty or fresh) of 1 litre each. At this stage the model used is a large tub which is empty. At a later date if we can figure out how to combine models we hope to show the kelp in the tub.

In order to grow kelp three waterings of 45L each are needed at least ten minutes apart from each other but no more than an hour. The kelp may be harvested forty minutes from tha last watering. Harvesting is possible even many hours later. Logging off will not affect the timer.

The harvest amount is determined by the quality of the kelp tank and the gardening skill. There is no limit on the number of kelp tanks built.

16 August 2025

The Path to Glass : Soda added

Soda

Step three in the path to glass is the addition of Soda. Add kelp to a camp fire. As the fire burns the kelp is transformed into equal amounts of ash and soda.

17 August 2025

The Path to Glass : Lime Kiln and Lime added

Lime Kiln with Lime

The fourth step of the path to glass consists of a new building called a Lime kiln and it’s function to make Lime.

To build the Lime kiln activate a stone brick on a stone brick. Attachments are 98 stone bricks, 100 clay, 5 dirts and 15 copper sheets.

To use the lime kiln add an equal ratio of limestone shard items to kindlings. Seal the Lime kiln with a clay and light with a steel and flint. Baking lime takes 18 hours. The lime kiln may be unsealed at any time. This will cause the kindling to be used but not the limestone shards. Kindling needs to be replaced and additional limestone shards may be added, keeping the ratio of each equal. The timer will commence at 18 hours the next time the lime kiln is sealed.

23 August 2025

The Path to Glass : Glass Makers Cauldron and Raw Glass added

Glass makers Cauldron with Raw Glass item

The fifth step on the path to glass consists of a new building called a glass makers Cauldron and its function to make Raw glass.

To build the Glass Makers Cauldron use a glowing 25 kg lump of steel and a large anvil in the crafting window. Additions are 250 adamantine lumps (they do not need to be glowing). The unfinished Glass Makers Cauldron may be picked up and placed near to where the building is to be located before the weight of the adamantine lumps is added. When the Glass Makers Cauldron is built it will not be able to be picked up. It may be loaded into a large cart.

To make raw glass three ingredients are needed, namely sand, lime and soda. The ratio to make one item of raw glass is 20 kg sand, 1 kg lime and 0.3 kg soda (the result of 12 kelps in a camp fire). These figures are chosen keeping in mind that at a later date the kelp tanks will be upgradable, making them produce higher amounts of kelp which in turn will result in more sodas.

Use a steel and flint and a kindling to light the glass makers cauldron. It may be fueled with tar, peat or wood.

The ratio to make raw glass is not strict in the process itself. If enough or more of each ingredient is present, and melted the Glass Makers Cauldon keeps making raw glass items at a rate of approx one per minute, so long as the fuel is sufficient to keep the temperatures high (the fire is burning steadily). Ingredients may be added to the Glass Makers Cauldron and raw glass items may be taken from it at any time. The heat of the process does not carry over across the server restarts, the lower weight ingredients lose their heat, and need time to reheat.

Automated Production coming soon

The Factory is coming soon

06 September 2025

Automated Production is almost ready

Steel Circular saw

The materials to build a factory will be 30 planks, 200 stone bricks and 200 clay.

Install additional machines for each capability:
Glass furnace (100 pottery bricks, 100 steel, 250 admanantine, 50 tin, 10 raw glass)
Saw assembly (100 beams, 5 Steel circular saws, 100 large nails, 10 ribbons)
Masons bench (300 pottery bricks, 20 chisel blades, 5 Steel circular saws, 5 diamonds)

A factory may be configured to hold machines of each capability in the same factory or any combination of the machines. Some may choose to have one factory per capability, or have all three capabilities in the same factory. There is no limit on the amount of factories which may be built.

07 September 2025

Automated Production has arrived

Machines to enable automation

In tonight’s update factories may be built. These use masonry skill. Automated production is enabled for the factory by building and installing a machine assembly. The installation takes sixty seconds so there is time to stop it if you change your mind.

The menu on the factory will show Glass making, Carpentry or Masonry depending on which machines are in the factory. Select the desired category to gain a more detailed sub menu. Selection of the item to be made is in the sub menu. Glass making is the only one which requires fuel (charcoal). If you try to seal the factory before placing raw materials in, the event window will give a prompt as to how much materials may be loaded. Sealing with a steel and flint will be required for glass making. For the other two categories sealing is done by clicking the menu.

After being sealed the factory will produce items made of glass, wood or rocks. The batch runtime is 10 hours. Early unsealing gives the raw materials back, and a proportion of the charcoal but no products will be made.

Using the factory will add to a new skill called manufacturing. Installing a machine will add to this skill and up to 10 increments per batch will be obtained. There is an associated research for manufacturing, items of donation are taken from a selection of the products that the factory makes.

Later upgrades to the factory may include less time for batches, and for complex items such as floorboards.

13 September 2025

Conservatory Kit and Lead Strips

Lead strips may be made using a small anvil and a lead lump.

Start a Conservatory Kit using a lead strip and a pane of glass in the crafting window. Attachments are 39 lead lumps, 19 glass panes, 10 ivy trellis, 100 planks and 100 shafts.

The Conservatory Kit is used to upgrade the Arboretum resulting in double harvests.

14 September 2025

Chemistry Laboratory and Fertilizer

Chemistry Laboratory and Fertilizer

What a machine! The Chemistry Laboratory is an expensive, elaborate addition to the Factory which will revolutionize farming by manufacturing fertilizer and pure alcohol. It is being added in tonight’s restart. Consider having a dedicated factory for the chem lab as it is going to be extremely, endlessly useful, rarely remaining in its resting state.

Built in the crafting window, the chemistry laboratory requires 1 still, 100 glass jar, 100 glass pipes, 4 slate slabs, 50 salt, 10 of each lump, 3 brazier bowl, 1 large brazier bowl and 1 source crystal. The skill used is natural substances.

Code is now in place to make fertilizer:
20 kg peat -> 8 kg unit of fertilizer. Up to 100 fertilizer per factory run of 10 hours.

To be coded soon:
Fertilizer may be applied to a growing field to get maximum yield when harvested at full height (reducing the need to do any raking and wild growth spells to improve harvests). Farming skill is conserved.
Fertilizer may also be applied to a kelp tank after the 3rd watering to double yield.

Pure alcohol will also be able to be made in the chem lab and used in the crafting of thermometers.

20 September 2025

Improved Yields

Use Fertilizer

In tonight’s restart fertilizer is implemented.

Fertilizer acts independently to increase yields. It has the action of doubling the yield after skills and any building upgrades are accounted for on arboretum and kelp tanks. It may also be added to crops and trees.

In the case of crops additional yields are added as if a wild growth spell had been cast 14 times.
Fertilizer may be added to any tree which is not overaged. For the best value add a fertilizer to a newly planted sprout to obtain the maximum amount of growths which will grow the tree to the overaged size. If applied to a shriveled tree it will revive the tree to overaged. A fertilized tree gives a sprout back.

Thermometers Now Available

Thermometers may now be crafted

Thermometers may now be crafted. They will be used to upgrade buildings.

27 September 2025

Fish Eggs and Aquaculture Kit

Fish Eggs and Aquaculture Kit

Kelp and reed tiles may now be foraged to find fish eggs.

An Aquaculture kit may be built using 10 glass panes, 10 moss and 5 fish eggs. This kit upgrades a kelp tank producing double yield.

28 September 2025

Thermometer Upgrades

The base amount is between one and four depending on gardening skill to harvest an arboretum and between one to five for a kelp tank. The thermometer upgrade adds one to these base amounts. It acts before any other upgrades which have been applied to the buildings which have a multiplier effect. The quality of the building also has the effect of an upgrade.

For example 70 gardening skill (with research enabled) gives a base amount of three plus the one added for thermometer, giving a new base of 4 which then multiplies by the other upgrades, say fertilized with aquaculture kit in place gives a total harvest of 4 times 2 times 2. Quality of building also matters and contributes to the amount harvested. For example a quality 50 building has a multiplier of 5 (10 quality per guardener in the case of an arboretum). The total harvest will be 4 times 2 times 2 times 5 giving a harvest of 80.

For high skill when harvesting maple sap a sufficiently large container will be needed such as a large barrel.

05 October 2025

Display of Player Scores and Gemstone Leagues

Gemstone Leagues

In tonight’s update there will be a change to the way scores are displayed. Player ranks will be split into gemstone leagues which range from Emerald (level 0 to level 5) through to Diamond (level 24 and above).

There is new code ready which will be enabled for the Maincourse Server consisting of rewards for progression into a new gemstone league. Six quality 95 gems of the new league contained in a cotton satchel will be received. The first Gobbler score will give the Emerald league reward.

06 October 2025

Arcadia

Arcadia Map

If you enjoy gaining skill at the slower steady pace of 1x 1x you may find Arcadia is just the place you are looking for. This new server has player influenced Gobbler code enabled. There is no combat. It has all the quality of life code that the Frenetia server has. The difference is the slower pace and our undertaking to keep it running indefinitely with daily backups. Deed costs and upkeep are enabled. Coins are high drop for foraging, botanising, tree harvests and treasure maps.

The Arcadia server will be run concurrently to the Gobblers Third Banquet servers.

Relax! Enjoy!
